Un incontournable du Mexique : les papel picado

In search of authenticity:

The origin of Mapache

In 2015, while living in Mexico, Jonathan (founder of Mapache) discovered the traditional "huarache" in a local market in Mexico City. He immediately fell in love with this shoe with its unique and authentic style , displaying a strong identity thanks to its original braiding .

He then sets out in search of the origins of this craft and travels to Michoacán , a state known for being home to the "soul of Mexico ." He becomes acquainted with this ancestral know-how, as well as the women and men who work with their hands to meticulously craft these sandals.

So, driven by the desire to preserve, enhance and pass on this heritage , he created Mapache, taking care to place craftsmanship at the heart of the project.

Since then, the Mapache adventure continues.

Mapache now collaborates with 4 manufacturing workshops in Mexico , representing more than 70 artisans who make each pair of sandals by hand, in the traditional way .

Over time, we have perpetuated the activity of our artisans, which was previously very seasonal, thus offering them greater professional stability thanks to continuous sandal production . To learn more about our mission, we invite you to discover our three key areas by clicking here .

Since 2015, we have taken up the challenge of making this know-how shine by creating a new collection of sandals each year .
