Article: How to build a more sustainable dressing room?

How to build a more sustainable dressing room?

One of the positive things about the arrival of autumn is the change that takes place in our wardrobes when the temperatures drop . In fact, for most of us, we split our wardrobe into two (autumn-winter and spring-summer) in order to save a little space in our wardrobes and not be disturbed by the presence of knitwear in the middle of July!

This method also has a great advantage: the opportunity to sort through our wardrobe at least twice a year, and to take advantage of the opportunity to begin a transition towards a more responsible and sustainable wardrobe .

Today, the Mapache team invites you to take a step back from all the clothes you own: do the brands in your wardrobe reflect your consumer values? Do the pieces still match your style? Do you think about taking good care of your favorite clothes? To help you in your quest for a sustainable wardrobe, we reveal our 4 key tips below!

Our first piece of advice is to simply sort through your clothes! The goal is to empty your entire wardrobe and go through all your clothes, without missing out on the pieces you've kept for years but never wear... ;) This step is essential to see which clothes you wear regularly or, on the contrary, which ones you've completely abandoned.

Beyond the practical aspect, this will also allow you to distinguish the great favorites in your wardrobe to help you define your style . If you wear more jeans on a daily basis, is it really worth continuing to buy dresses that you only wear occasionally? Your new mantra should be: I own pieces that fit my everyday life and that I feel really good in.

So, you can start by classifying your clothes into four categories: I keep, I give away, I sell, I recycle.

Our second tip is to buy less, but above all, better! After sorting through your closet, you'll probably realize that among your various piles of clothes, you'll generally wear the same things every day...

From now on, when you go shopping, ask yourself if you really need it or if it's actually a "trendy" piece that you'll quickly get tired of. To do this, we suggest you try the five-outfit technique, which consists of asking yourself if a piece can be combined with at least five different looks. For example, we can confirm that our iconic Alegre Champagne goes with more than just five looks ;)

Just as you regularly maintain your pair of Mapache, taking care of the clothes already in your closet is a solution for a more sustainable wardrobe. To revive the color of your Alegre Tabac (our favorite color of the fall!), you use a cleansing foam combined with a delicate cream . For a stain on jeans or a t-shirt, the process remains the same. Before heading to the washing machine, opt for a little soap and elbow grease.

From an ecological point of view, this saves on detergent and avoids running the machine too regularly. In addition, you will protect the fabrics of your clothes, which the machine tends to damage!

In line with our philosophy and commitments , we invite you to increasingly opt for second-hand alternatives that offer a second life to your clothes. This is a beneficial opportunity where everyone can find what they are looking for, both buyers and consumers, by allowing the recycling of thousands of items at a lower cost.

At the office, we have totally adopted these four tips in our daily lives and we have said YES to a more sustainable wardrobe 🌿
